There is a reason everyone is talking about this movie. The reason is George Clooney.

Clooney is great in everything and usually excels as a guy who is achieving professionally. Michael Clayton was the best at what he did, Ryan Bingham in Up in the Air was the best at firing people, Doug Ross on ER was even the best rebel doctor, and this time Matt King is a great successful lawyer and of course the Descendant of Hawaii's king kamehameha.

The thing that makes this Character of Clooneys stand out is the layers of desperation in which he plays it. Usually Clooney rules at playing a former bad boy trying to be good, or a lonely guy learning to love, or even a person who learns it's okay to not be the best. But there is always a recurring theme in Clooney movies and nobody does it better than him. It is the guy who re-prioritizes his life.

This time the new priority is his family and the reason he deserves awards for the performance is the amazing depth he adds to the desperation of the character.

Matt King's wife is dying after a boating accident and suddenly after all these years of becoming wealthy from overwork as a lawyer who feels his only job is to financially provide for his family, he now has to emotionally provide as well. Matt King is a guy who cant wait for his wife to hurry up and heal so he can get back to his life of taking care of the family and she can get back to raising their kids.

The turn is when he finds out his wife will not recover and needs to be taken off her ventilator due to her living will. Matt has to try to connect with his children in a way he never has before and THEN... he finds out his wife was having an affair. The almost obsessive desperation to find the man she was having the affair with starts the journey with his daughters and a scene stealing guest to become a family.

Clooney is truly GREAT as is Shailene Woodley, Judy Greer and Beau Bridges. A must see in this Academy Award Movie viewing season.

A- GO SEE immediately and BUY when it's out

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a smart layered film that is one of those movies you will find new parts you love everytime you see it. Gay Oldman is Great as is Tom Hardy and Collin Firth is a limited role. Watching the smoking out of the Mole is a fun Ride.

Warning this is a movie for smart people. White Trash will hate this movie

STATE OF PLAY IS A GREAT RIDE

There is nothing quite like a good political thriller but unfortunately we don't get many good ones these days. In fact over the last few years I cant think of any genre that has become known for "falling short" more than the Hollywood Political Thriller. Finally we got one that doesn't Fall Short. In fact it rises above any political thriller in recent years.
Scandal, murder, mystery, and conspiracy all mix together perfectly in this nice story that comes directly from a BBC television mini-series of the same name. The mini series had 6 hours to tell the story. This film had to do it in 2 hours and 7 minutes. Now usually when you see source material being condensed you feel cheated and like you missed something. That was my first concern with this film. I was fortunately wrong to worry. Director Kevin Mcdonald weaves a nice tale that is a BABY BEAR film. For those not familiar with my ratings of time of film a BABY BEAR film is just right. It's not too long like papa Bear or too short like Mama Bear. Nope this one is just right.
Also just right is Russell Crowe. This film joins LA Confidential, and Cinderella Man's the only two Russell Crowe films where I didn't feel I was watching Russell Crowe on Screen. In fact you forget it's Russell Crowe. He is Cal Macaffrey the journalist from the fictional Washington Globe who is believer in the old style of providing news to the public. He is a guy that feels you don't get the news unless you have newspaper ink on your fingers. Rachel McAdams plays Della Frye who is the writer of a political blog and the biggest star for the papers new media division that Macaffrey despises. The two are tied together after a Congressman Stephen Collins assistant is found dead. Collins is played by Ben Affleck who again shines in a Large supporting role. Collins and Macaffrey were college roommate's and that's the reason why new school Della Frye and old school Cal Macaffrey meet and end up attempting to break a conspiracy that is scarily too close for comfort in today's world.
It is a fun ride watching as little pieces of the puzzle come together for the reporters who are wondering themselves if their job is too find the story or the truth.
The less details you know the better your enjoyment of this story will be. This film has fantastic supporting cast performance's with Jason Bateman shining in a little more than a cameo role, Robin Wright Penn playing the wife of Congressman Collins who knows Cal from school, Helen Mirren who is great as always as the Editor of the Globe and Jeff Daniels as the Majority Whip who advises Collins after scandal breaks out.
This movie is a good watch. Slightly predictable story doesn't take away from the superb acting and good plot. Crowe, Affleck and Bateman are worth the money too.
If you want a good movie that takes you on a trip while watching the characters unravel the details of the mystery WATCH THIS FILM. I give is 4 out of 5.

The year is 1985. The impending threat of nuclear war between America and Russia hangs heavy on the thoughts of everyone. President Nixon assures the country is safe from annihilation as long as the super-hero Dr. Manhattan stands behind the USA. Meanwhile, Eddie Blake (The Comedian) is thrown out of his penthouse window. As disaster looms, the masked vigilante Rorschach tries to bring his old group, The Watchmen, together to solve the mystery of who murdered their fallen comrade. But when the world could end at any minute, how important is the death of one disturbed man anyway?

Watchmen is a phenomenal movie! Set as a view if super-humans existed in the real world, the movie is a disguised study of the human condition. This is as much a comic book movie as the graphic novel the film was based on is a comic book. Sex, violence, and introspection is prevalent throughout. Underneath all that, Watchmen is also a great crime story as well. For fans of the graphic novel, the movies contains about 85% of the story with very little changes.

Without A-list movie stars, the actors all disappear into their roles. The characters from the novel come to life on the screen. Malin Akerman is smoking hot as the Silk Spectre. As for drawbacks to this film, Dr. Manhattan (played by Billy Crudup) is nude through 90% of the movie. This is somewhat unsettling, but the movie is meant to be disturbing. My only real gripe is the music picked for the movie was a little on the nose. Overall, I highly recommend this movie whether or not you've read the novel. That said, I think a large percentage of people probably won't get an intellectual comic book movie and I probably wouldn't let anyone under 20 see the film. Rated R Run Time:162 minutes Grade: A

The Soloist- Robert Downey Jr finds a crazy, homeless guy (played by Jamie Foxx) who can play the cello. ugh

Sunshine Cleaning- Two sisters start a crime scene cleaning service to get out of their mid-life funk. Fun!

March 20th:

Knowing- A series of numbers that predict disasters is found in a time capsule. This could be good if Nicolas Cage doesn't jinx it.

I Love You, Man- Starring Paul Rudd and Jason Segel, Paul tries to find a man-friend before his wedding to be his best man.

March 27th:

Monsters Vs. Aliens- Should be the next big animated movie. It will even be in 3-D (for an extra $2.50)

Adventureland- A college grad comes home in the summer of 1987 to find the only job he can get is working at the local amusement park. Bill Hader, Kristin Wiig, and Ryan Reynolds are in the supporting cast. The movie should be funny.

Sam Rockwell stars in a twisted comedy as Victor Mancini, a sex-addicted med school dropout who routinely goes to restaurants and chokes on food to con his saviors into giving him cash. Between that and his job as a colonial re-enactor, Victor ekes out just enough money to keep his mother (Anjelica Huston) in a good nursing facility. Victor seems content with his lot in life until events place him in the unlikely role of savior. The only problem is how does he save other people when Victor doesn't feel he's not worth saving.

From the dark mind of Chuck Palahniuk (author of Fight Club), Choke is a crude but hysterical movie. Sam Rockwell seems to have a knack for playing an unlikable protagonist that the viewer can't help but end up following. This one is definitely worth a rental.

"He's just not that into you"

Like many husbands and boyfriends and just guys who know women and want to get in their pants I was dragged to this movie on Friday night. I was expecting the same old romantic comedy stuff that follows the old Hollywood formula where the couple meets under bad circumstances and they dont like eachother. Then through some odd occurance they realize that what they were looking for was the person that was right in front of their eyes. Now dont get me wrong that does happen in this movie, several times, but the way it happens is what makes this movie a step above the others.
For starters it is hard to say who the star is in this ensemble story. Ginnifer Goodwin is the Stand Out however as Gigi. A young woman who is desperate for love. I mean Desperate. The type of girl that every guy watching the movie feels guilty watching because you know that you did horrible things to girls just like her in the past. Justin Long is also great as Alex the straight Shooting guy who feels sorry for Gigi and helps her find love by pointing out which guys are into her and which guys are just blowing her off. That is story 1.
Brad Cooper plays a married guy who is happy in his marriage or is he to Jeanine played by Jennifer Connely who is great as the overly particular wife who loves her husband. Enter Scarlet Johanson who looks phenomenol as the hot young yoga instructor/singer that throws herself at the married guy. Meanwhile the guy who's head she messes with is a realtor played by Kevin Connoly who also just happens to have gone on a date with Gigi. He also buys alternative newspaper advertising from mary played by Drew Barrymore who just so happens to be friends with Scarlett Johansons character. The realtor by the way also sold a house to the husband and wife and is friends with Alex the justin long character.

Are you seeing how the movie all comes together yet?
The husband is best friends with Ben Affleck who lives with Jennifer Aniston who by the way works with both Gigi and Jeanine....
Now if you can keep up with that... on to my thoughts

Jennifer Aniston and Ben Affleck make up a pretty likeable couple that somehow convince themselves that something is wrong. This is actually a good job acting from Aniston because she recently played a character in the Break Up that she could have easily morphed this one into if she didnt take control of this role and differentiate it. Although a supporting role Aniston pulled it off and makes this role stand on its own. Ben Affleck is probably the Big name who has the smallest role in the movie but just nails it. Even though it would have been nice to see a little more where his characters motivation was from.

Brad Cooper is great and he captures a realistic character that makes you wonder where hes coming from with every close up.
Scarlett Johanson is also very good. however I think the movie would have helped itself by revealing the true natures of these characters a little earlier.
Jennifer Connely should have been on the screen more. She has one scene where she gets to let go and I wish we could have seen more of it. By the way she plays desperation great and scenes in a Home Depot and in her husbands office make her stand out to me.
Drew Barrymore's role could have been played by anyone. Seriously, anyone. However I do appreciate her doing such a blah role.
Justin Long proves he's more than the smartass sidekick of mac pitch guy. He actually shows a little depth. A little.
Kevin Connoly does aan okay job but its hard to watch him and not think that Vince, Drama, and Turtle are waiting for him at home.

Overall the movie is funny, somewhat realistic and not a waste of time and although its long you can still tell that there was a lot of it that was left on the cutting room floor. I did wonder if this wouldnt have best been an 8 part HBO series.
With that being said... GO SEE IT.
That's right a reccomendation for a chick Flick.

Gets a solid 6.8 out of 10 from me but guys trust me youre wife, girlfriend, or girl whose pants youre trying to get into will love it.

The Wrestler - DC's take

The Wrestler is a brutal dose of the harsh reality behind the glitz and glamour of an often overlooked and demanding profession. If one of the matches weren't bad enough, the aftermath in the locker room looks like torture. Mickey Rourke disappears into his role of Randy "The Ram" Robinson. Watching the movie, you feel Randy is destined to self-destruct at some point, but you start rooting for him anyway. If you're even a casual fan of wrestling or just a fan of life drama, this movie is a must see. Any more I could have said, Ray has already been dead-on with his assessment. If you can't see it locally, add it to your Netflix as soon as it's available.

THE WRESTLER -- RAY'S REVIEW

I am sure that DC will weigh in on this movie with a review soon but I wanted to get mine up asap after seeing this gem of a movie.
First up I have to let you know I am a wrestling fan. Been a fan for years and am always in awe of the amazing feats that these athletes do. I also am always never shocked when I hear the tragedy that so many of these athletes end up suffering as they grow old. It is a sport with no union. It is a sport where you have to take unbelievable risks in order to get noticed and succeed. It is a sport where so few make it to the top.
The above reasons are what makes the subject matter covered in this movie so compelling before you see the movie. You go into it hoping that Aranovsky and Rourke can do the subject matter justice. What you get is simply...blown away.
I was expecting a good movie but I was not expecting the emotional ride that I was taken on with this movie. Mickey Rourke is in one word...AMAZING. I mean seriously the guy becomes Randy the Ram. You believe Randy the Ram exists. As a fan I was wanting to find some old tapes to watch some of his matches.
The story is about Randy the Ram the wrestler who was big in the late 80's. He has the long dyed blonde hair, the tights, and the legendary status of someone who has been to the top but is now nowhere near it. Randy is doing small time weekend independent shows for cash and can't afford his rent. He is performing to small halls with folding chair seats and half filled audiences and he is the veteran guy that still sacrifices his body like he is at Madison Square Garden. We know that his biggest fame came around 1988 and we don't know what he did to lose his big time status but as a viewer we know we like him. And that is one of the keys of this movie. You like Randy the Ram. He is a people person. Don't get me wrong he is incredibly flawed and there is no doubt in your mind that he is so self destructive he will never get the happy ending that you can't tell if he wants or not.
Randy works at a grocery store part time and then wrestles on the weekend. He really has no friends that we learn of. Only people that know him as the wrestler.
He does feel something for a stripper at a local club. She is Cassidy and she is played incredibly by Marisa Tomei. She shines. I mean SHINES in this role. You talk about letting it all hang out and like Rourke she is entirely believable as the aging stripper who knows there isnt much left for her to do in the career she has chosen except get fired.
The parallels between cassidy and Randy are really a credit to Darren Aranovskys script. Written like youre watching a documentary and filmed much like a low budget documentary that is more likely to wind up on the internet instead of the theater.
Randy has a heart attack and has to come to the conclusion that he can no longer do what he loves. He also comes to the conclusion that it is time for him to mend fences he broke years ago. That is where his daughter comes into play. Evan Rachel Wood is good but predictable as his daughter.
The movie is a helluva ride. You feel for Randy the Ram, you want so much for him to find happiness. You want him to find love. You want him to get that happy ending. Its just as I said earlier youre not sure he wants one.
The movie is fantastic and I give it 4 and a 1/2 out of 5. No doubt in my mind Mickey Rourke and Marissa Tomei should get Oscars and I am shocked it isnt up for Best Movie. Rourkes Performance will stand up for years as one of the best of this decade.

Band of Brothers - While technically not a movie, the series is the best 10 hours of the genre.
Dirty Dozen - Military inmates sent on a suicide mission. What's not cool about that?
Sahara - Not the Matthew McConaughey movie, but The 1943 classic with Humphrey Bogart about a small platoon holding off a Nazi battalion in the middle of the Sahara desert.
Saving Private Ryan - Packing a star-studded cast, this movie still holds up as the best war movie in the last decade.
Kelly's Heroes - Clint Eastwood convinces a group of rogues to follow him into enemy territory for the promise of finding stolen Nazi gold.

Grabriel Macht stars as the Spirit. As protector of Central City, The Spirit prowls the rooftops looking to defend the city's citizens from those with evil intentions. One of the worst offenders is the Octopus (Samuel L Jackson). Along with his scientist sidekick Silken Floss (Scarlett Johansson) and a slew of clones (all played by Louis Lombardi) to do his bidding, the Octopus is quite a formidable foe for Central City's lone hero. Fortunately, The Spirit has the ability to heal from nearly any injury. Unfortunately, he's not sure how he got these odd powers that showed up only after he died. Worse yet, only the Octopus seems to know why. On top of all that, an old flame (Eva Mendes) of the Spirit's former life just came back into town and is leaving behind a trail of bodies. At least the Spirit still has friends on the police force and has a charming hold over the ladies in his life...

If the promise of Eva Mendes, Scarlett Johansson, Jaime King, Paz Vega, and Carmen Electra dressed in provocative outfits isn't enough, Sam Jackson give a great over the top villain performance that's sure to stay in memory for a while. Any fan of Sin City will love this movie. The Spirit is pure action-packed and comedic entertainment. This one goes perfect with the large popcorn.

Yes Man

Carl (Jim Carrey) spends his life saying no to all questions and opportunities that come his way. Despite his friends best efforts, Carl prefers to close himself off inside his apartment and watch movie rentals. Carl's demeanor changes, however, after his old friend Nick (John Michael Higgins) drags him to a motivational group. The leader of the group (Terrance Stamp) convinces Carl that he must say yes to every opportunity he runs across. Reluctant at first, Carl soon passionately follows the advice of saying yes to everything after a chance encounter with the quirky Allison (Zooey Deschanel) on his first night with the yes program. Hilarious hijinks ensue.

Jim Carrey returns to comedy with a smash. Yes Man is the funniest movie out this season. The supporting cast is great and the predicaments Carl gets himself into outrageous and sometimes life-affirming. This movie is one worth seeing.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Brad Pitt Stars in this visually entrancing movie about a man named Benjamin who's life is spent aging backwards. Based on the novel of the same name by F Scott Fitzgerald, the movie feels reminiscent of Forrest Gump in that the movie details the strange but interesting life of the main character while he narrates his story. The difference is the director David Fincher keeps the movie a little darker and more mysterious than other movies of the like. Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchet gave amazing performances and the movie was filled with intriguing characters. The only flaw I found in the movie is that it is a bit long and seems to drag at some points. The increased local ticket prices of $7.25 for a matinee may discourage seeing this in the theaters but Benjamin Button is definitely worth the rental when the movie's out on DVD.

Bedtime Stories

When Skeeter Bronson (Adam Sandler) is asked to look after his niece and nephew for a few days, parts of the bedtime stories he makes up for the kids to lull them to sleep actually happen to Skeeter the next day.

Sandler seems to have joined the ranks of many comedians pushing their craft towards a more family friendly humor. The kids are sure to enjoy this one a lot more than the typical 30 year old movie goer.

The Day the Earth Stood Still

I am well aware the photo is the poster for the original version of the current blockbuster of the same name. I'm using it because this poster represents the cult classic which is worth watching with a Mystery Science Theater 3000 quality to it. While there are some similarities to the 2008 version and the 1951 original, the current version is not your grandfather's "Klaatu barada nikto."

Like in the original, an alien named Klaatu takes human form (Keanu Reeves) and judges the earth's future with the help of a colossal robot named GORT. Scientist Helen Benson (Jennifer Connelly) tries to convince Klaatu that the human race deserves a second chance.

Unlike the original, this movie seems to have a modern moral. The original dealt with the burgeoning era of mistrust and xenophobia that the cold war was creating. The current movie, however, tries to market McDonalds, LG, and Ford to the audience all the while preaching a green lifestyle.

Now some of the alien-tech is cool, but it's nothing original. Unfortunately, the best part of the movie is getting a chance to see the Wolverine trailer. At least the original is worth checking out for the Sci-Fi fans. Rated PG-13 104 Minutes Grade:D

THE DARK KNIGHT

The AMAZING FILM that came out this summer is finally out on DVD today. In fact it is the number one selling Blu-Ray Disc of all time just in pre-orders alone. This disc is going to be amazing with 1 disc and 2 disc collections and Blu-Ray collectors sets as well as just the movie. If you missed this Film you need to go out and get it early as it is on sale everywhere this week. Not just the best movie of last summer but quite honestly one of the best movies ever made. Shop around and find a great price on this movie as it is everwhere and there is a lot of competition for price with big stores and online retailers.

HORTON HEARS A WHO

The Jim Carrey Voiced film was loved by kids and even though very few people remember it was one of the highest grossing films of 08. Once again on both regular DVD and Blu-Ray in different versions. There are good prices and it makes a great gift for a child that you would like to spend a couple hours in their bedrooom watching it rather than in the living room bothering you. My advice find the cheap regulare DVD. Paying Blu-Ray price for something that is only gonna be watched on a small childs TV seems ridiculous

LOST SEASON 4

Mark my words this series will go down in history as one of the greatest shows of all time. I am talking top 3 when it's all said and done. If you can get a good price PICK IT UP. If not rent it and spend a good week getting caught up. I am wanting to get the blu Ray if I can get a good price. Should be awesome special features!!

Cadillac Records– The story of the rise and fall of the Chicago based Chess Records which launched the careers of Muddy Waters, Etta James, and Chuck Berry. Adrian Brody, and Beyonce Knowles star. The music of these blues legends is unforgettable, but is the story about the record company that promoted them worth telling?

Frost/Nixon- Based on the 1977 series of interviews between David Frost and Richard Nixon. Ron Howard directs a loaded cast. With Howard’s track record this should be done well, but is Nixon still relevant?

Nobel Son- When a Nobel prize winner refuses to pay the ransom for his son who is being held hostage, his son joins the kidnappers in a plot for revenge. This may be an entertaining movie with dark humor. But this one may not make the screens in Springfield.

Punisher: War Zone- The sequel of the Punisher minus Thomas Jane and the dark humor that made the previous movie. Based on the preview this may give the original with Lundgren a run for its money for Marvel’s 2^nd worst movie. (Hulk being the worst)

December 12^th

Day the Earth Stood Still- Jennifer Connelly and Keanu Reeves star in the remake of the 1951 classic about an alien race come to wipe out the destructive people of Earth. The original preached about peace. The previews for this updated version makes the aliens look like they are following a Green initiative.

Doubt- Starring Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Meryl Streep, this movie is based on the best-selling novel about a nun confronting a priest after suspecting him of abusing a student. Just in time for the Catholics biggest holiday!

Nothing Like the Holidays- A Latino family with nothing in common other than being part of the family get together for the holidays. John Leguizamo, Alfred Molina, and Freddy Rodriguez star. The preview is funny, but it’s missing explosions.

The Reader- Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes star in what looks like a 2008 version of the English Patient. This is good for the people who were waiting for 2008’s version of the English Patient…

The Wrestler- In one of the more compelling movies coming out this month, Mickey Rourke star as an aging wrestler trying to move on with his life after suffering a career ending injury. However, when a chance to get back in the ring arises, will he risk everything for another shot at center stage. The preview is on our site and looks to be a must see. Unfortunately, this may fall below the Springfield Kerasotes radar.

December 19^th

Seven Pounds- Will Smith stars as a man with a secret and a plan for redemption with a plan that could affect the lives of seven strangers forever. I’m curious as to know what Smith’s character did. (My guess is he killed a child while driving drunk, or he made a video with Hillbilly Joe and Ms Kitty)

Tale of Despereaux- An animated story about a mouse with over-sized ears and a large amount of courage set in the age of maidens and dragons. This is the family movie for the kids after Bolt and Madagascar have been seen.

Yes Man- Jim Carey stars as a man who makes a promise to say yes to whatever comes along. Jim Carey may be back on top of the comedy star list after this movie.

Bedtime Stories- Adam Sandler stars in this movie where the stories he tells his nephews in the evening become reality the next day. Look out! Sandler is in another wacky situation!

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button- Benjamin (Brad Pitt) is living his life in reverse. As the title says, the trailer makes me curious…

Marley & Me- The story about a man giving his girlfriend a dog and the dog becomes more of a handful than the couple originally thought. Starring Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson. My only thought on this movie is how scantily clad Aniston will be…

The Spirit- Directed by the creator of Sin City and adapted from Will Eisner’s graphic novels, The Spirit stars a series of femme fatales (Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes, and Sarah Paulson) sent to kill the city’s masked crusader (Gabriel Macht). Samuel L Jackson stars as the criminal mastermind, The Octopus. If you liked Sin City, The Spirit will definitely tide you over until Sin City 2 is released.

December 26^th

Gran Torino- Clint Eastwood stars as a retired soldier forced to defend his neighborhood from an Asian gang. I like Eastwood, but can he still pull of the grizzelled old man or will he come off like my grandfather looks after he soils his depends?

Revolutionary Road- Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet star as an unconventional couple trying to find fulfillment in an age of conformity. Based on the description, I thought HBJ may have a lawsuit, but after watching the preview I fell asleep.

Valkyrie- Based on a true story, Tom Cruise stars as part of the conspiracy to assassinate Hitler. Most historians know how this one should play out and Bryan Singer's last movie was the dreck Superman Returns. Singer, however, has a great track record with movies that involve Nazis and/or deception (see Apt Pupil and Usual Suspects).

BOLT

Bolt (John Travolta) is the biggest action star currently on television. Thanks to the director, the dog believes he has super powers and has to constantly defend his master Penny (Miley Cyrus) from the clutches of the evil Dr Calico (Malcom McDowell). After the filming of the cliff-hanger season finale, Bolt is mistakenly shipped to New York city. Frantic and desperate, Bolt captures the street-smart alley cat, Mittens (Susie Essman) believing her to be a spy for Dr Calico. Mittens becomes the reluctant guide for Bolt's quest to return to LA. Along their travels, they come across an over zealous super-fan in the form of an overweight hamster named Rhino (Mark Walton). While on the road, Mittens slowly realizes Bolt has led a sheltered life and tries to help him learn the little things he's missed out on by not living like a normal dog.

I thought Bolt was one of those animated movies that most adults could easily tolerate if not enjoy. In a slew of rated R comedies lately, this provides a decent option for those that have young kids (6-10) to see a family movie. Seen previously on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Susie Essman's dry wit provides a good counter balance to John Travolta's straight-laced attitude and Mark Walton' s super-fan intensity. While the theme is not particularly original (another Disney movie where a family is split apart by some bizarre event and yet both sides are determined to find one another again), the movie does provide enough laughs to keep the kids and adults entertained. Rated PG Run time 96 Minutes Grade C+

Being a wrestling fan I have heard so much about this movie. I thought Mickey Rourke was phenomenal in Sin City. I had a feeling he would bring something to this role when I read what the movie was about. All I can say is Holy SH$t He even brings it in the Trailer. The sadness, the angst, the emotion in his face and thats hard to do with his weird looking stretched face. This looks like it could bring the ROCKY feel back to the movies. You very rarely see mood in a trailer but I definitely see it in this one. Check it out below it is the trailer for the Wrestler.

Some Quick Throwbacks Hits for November

Revolver-Your mind can not accept a game this big. Directed by Guy Ritchie. Jake (Jason Statham) just got out of prison and only has revenge on his mind. He has had 5 long years in solitary to plan his revenge against the man who sent him to jail. During that time, Mr. Macha (Ray Liota) has grown in power becoming the owner of a casino. Macha has kept tabs on his adversary and awaits Jake's bid for revenge. What Macha doesn't know is Jake spent 5 years learning from two of the smartest inmates in the prison. All starts well for Jake until things go sideways and he's muscled by two loan sharks (Andre Benjamin and Vincent Pastore) into playing their own little game with Macha. Throw in a stuttering hitman (Mark Strong), a sadistic bodyguard (Terrance Maynard), the yakuza, and the mysterious Mr Gold, and what once started out as a plot for revenge quickly turns into a game of life or death with everyone playing for keeps.

Revolver is sure to mess with your head as you watch it. For those that enjoy movies that provide mental shake-ups, this one is definitely a must watch. Jason Statham is finally given a role where he can demonstrate more than just his fighting and driving style. Love it or hate it, Revolver is guaranteed to leave an impression.

Memento- Guy Pearce stars as an amnesiac out for revenge for the murder of his wife in Christopher Nolan's (Batman Begins, Dark Knight) breakout directorial and screen-writing performance.

Shelby Leonard (Guy Pearce) has a problem. He is trying to hunt down his wife's killer. What makes things worse is Shelby can no longer retain any new memories. All he has to go on are his polaroids all over the hotel room and mysterious tattoos all over his body. His only leads come from Natalie (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Teddy (Joe Panoliano). Can he trust Natalie like the photo says or does she have ulterior motives? Teddy says he knows me but his photo has him marked as a liar. Can a man with no memory avenge his wife and more importantly, will he remember?

In a bizarre twist, Memento places the viewer in the shoes of the main character by starting at the ending and going backwards from scene to scene. This movie kicked off the career of director, Christopher Nolan. Guy Pearce gives a fantastic performance. This is one gimmick movie where the gimmick actually makes a good story better. Best Buy is currently selling the dvd copy for $6.99 which is a good deal for this thriller.

Nate's Review of Quantum of Solace

Let me start this review by stating that, in some aspects, I agree with Ray and DC, and I disagree on some aspects. I will also admit that I was one of those skeptics who wasn't sure if Daniel Craig was the right person to play Bond, but after the opening scene in Casino Royale I was certain that he was the right choice. He has, in two films, changed the face of the traditional James Bond character that has since taken over 17 films to create. He's taken the role from an almost cartoonish depiction of a british super agent, to a more "in your face" fist fighting agent who doesn't rely on gadgets or special weapons to get him through the mission at hand.

If I have to give a review right this minute, I'd have to say that "Quantum of Solace" was not my favorite of the many James Bond movies but after thinking about it I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt as a film that's a setup for bigger and better things to come. If you read Ray and DC's reviews of the film you see that this movie does setup the Quantum group as a villain group that will oppose the new Bond, just as SPECTRE did the old Bond. I do hope that the villains start getting more interesting as Dominic Greene was by far the least interesting villain I've seen in a Bond movie. He portrayed a bad guy that was more of a "see the big picture" computer geek mastermind type than a muscle type that had the weapons to put together a climatic fight with Bond at the end of the movie. I say that I hope the villains get more interesting because as you'll see at this movie all we're really given is that Quantum seems like it's made up of mostly "mastermind" types.

If you're a true Bond fan, you'll go see this regardless of any review, but if you're NOT a Bond fan take my advice and at very least go out and rent "Casino Royale" before checking out Quantum of Solace. You'll wish you had if you haven't!!

RAY'S THOUGHTS ON QUANTUM OF SOLACE

Let me start by saying that I LIKED THIS MOVIE. I am a huge fan of all things Bond. I was also one of the people that was not sure Daniel Craig was the correct choice to take over the role. I was proven wrong after I saw CASINO ROYALE.

Now I think I made an incredibly smart decision by watching Casino Royale not that long ago. I mean how could I not I got it on Blue Ray! By watching it I think I was less confused than some others might have been at the beginning of this movie. It picks up minutes after the last movie ended. The car chase scene at the beginning of the movie is incredible and it is cool to see a movie get right into action and take advantage of the fact that we know the characters.

Daniel Craig is Awesome again as Bond. And Dame Judi Dench continues to be Magnificent as M. Let's face it Judi Dench is the best. Seriously, she is amazing. I would watch her play any role. I mean she could pull off a movie where she is a teacher who ends up coaching inner city black kids in basketball. She could pull off the mean Grandmother with a heart of gold in a BENJI movie. She could pull off World leaders, Mother superiors, superhero villians, you name it this lady can do it.

I like the fact that the creation of the QUANTUM group gives Bond a SPECTRE like organization to fight against. I liked the action in the beginning chase scene that has some of the same running and jumping that was made so famous in the last movie. I loved the female roles in the movie. Strawberry Fields was super hot and Im not a big fan of redheads. I loved the scene when Bond gets photos of the members of the Quantum organization while the opera is going on.

What I didnt like was NO SEX WITH THE BOLIVIAN CHIC. COME ON!! Its Bond.
I hated the artsy action scene with the opera finale behind it. I know the director was trying something new but it didnt work. That scene should have played out normally like all other Bond action sequences. I also think that we have seen Rogue Bond enough. Next movie let's not have him go off rogue. Let's also get a less pussy acting villian. My wife could have punched out Dominic Greene who otherwise was a great villian. I also think the producers need to leave the Bourne movies alone. They are what they are. We dont need to take that annoying frenetic pacing from those movies. In other words Bond movies are great we dont need to steal from the Bourne movies. Come on youre better than that.

Overall with the exception of the handful of nit picky things I just mentioned I loved this movie
4 out of 5 on RAYSCALE. Go see it.

James Bond: Quantum of Solace

This latest Bond epic picks up where Casino Royale left off with James Bond (Daniel Craig) in search of the mysterious Quantum group. In a globe spanning quest, Bond runs across the nefarious Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric) and his plans to stage a coup in a 3rd world country for material and political gain. If that weren't enough of a challenge, Bond must stay one step ahead of members of MI-6 and the CIA whose goals align with Dominic Greene. Luckily, Bond gets some help along the way from the sultry and secretive Camille (Olga Kurylenko). Will James find solace in ending the latest gambit from Quantum? That remains to be seen...

This new retooled version of the James Bond series is firing on all cylinders! Gone is the suave, martini swilling playboy your father knew. The new Bond is one part grifter, one part Jack Bauer. While I was hesitant with the new direction of the franchise at first, These new movies have delivered on the hype. While the gadgets and dry humor are no longer part of the main theme, the classics are now available on blue ray to enjoy. Meanwhile, Daniel Craig is indeed the new James Bond for the new millennium. Rated PG-13 106 Minutes Grade A

Role Models

Wheeler (Sean William Scott) and Danny (Paul Rudd) are two under achievers forced to spend 150 hours mentoring kids at Sturdy Wings to avoid jail time. Unfortunately, Gayle (Jane Lynch), the director of Sturdy Wings has decided to pair the guys with the least popular kids of the agency. Danny is paired with Augie (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), a fantasy role-player and Wheeler is forced to pair up with Ronnie (Bobb'e J Thompson), a foul-mouthed belligerent 10-year-old. Danny and Wheeler quickly learn they if to mature somewhat before they're forced to do jail time.

Bobb'e J Thompson steals the show in nearly every scene in which he appears. Role Models provides plenty of laughs and ends up a classic feel good movie. Fans of foul mouth humor, Kiss, and mock sword fighting should enjoy the hell out of this movie. Rated R 99 Minutes Grade B+

Roman (Chris Bridges) and Micky (Jeremy Piven) want their most popular musician back. Johnny Quid (Toby Kebbell) wants more drugs. Archie (Mark Strong) wants a moments rest. All of them are about to find out you don't always get what you want.

Guy Ritchie presents another high velocity action comedy falling in the steps of Snatch and Lock Stock and Smoking Barrels. This movie was highly entertaining and worth the ticket price.

Looking Ahead November

The following is a quick look at all the potential blockbusters and a few duds coming to theaters during the month of November.

November 7

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa- An animated sequel starring the voices of Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, and Jada Pinkett-Smith. This one follows the characters as they learn to adapt from the cushy lifestyle of the zoo to the harsh life of the jungle. I'm sure the kids will enjoy it.

Role Models- Starring Paul Rudd and Sean William Scott, two losers are forced to be big brothers to avoid going to jail. This one looks like it has potential. Look for the kid Ronnie to steal the scenes. It seems he's based off the child who stole his grandmother's car a few months back.

Soul Men- Samuel L Jackson and the late Bernie Mac star as a defunct music group trying to launch a come back. The two appear to have a good comedic back and forth in the preview, but the movie will likely be eclipsed by the other shows coming out this week.

November 14

James Bond: Quantum of Solace- Daniel Craig is slowly earning his due as the new Bond and this movie may propel him to a favorite. The preview has been the best of the fall season. The new direction is great, but I hope they bring back the cool gadgets.

November 21

Bolt- Disney's fall animated release about a dog, voiced by John Travolta, believing he's a super hero lost in New York. Disney puts this out just in time to force parents to go out and get the spinoff merchandise on Black Friday. At least the movie looks funny.

Twilight- Based on an extremely popular book series, many have been anxiously awaiting this release. Expect a cross between Interview with a Vampire and the OC from the look of the trailer

November 26 (Wednesday)

Australia- Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman star in a world war 2 epic set in Australia. This may have missed its peak potential not being released in the late 80's when America was fascinated with all things Australian.

Four Christmas- Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon star as a couple caught on national news when their vacation is ruined. Because of that they get trapped into seeing each of their families over the holidays. This one looks to be the one everybody will be talking about at work after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Milk- Sean Penn stars in the story of the first openly gay man elected to public office in America. Not on my must see list, but some may be interested in Harvey Milk's life story.

Transporter 3- Even more transportier!!! Jason Stathem's made quite the reputation of the fast-driving, butt-kicking, funny-talking action star.

Zach & Miri Make a Porno

Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) have been life long friends and are currently living together in their home town just outside of Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, they aren't making enough money to pay their bills. After a chance encounter at the high school reunion, Zack determines the best way to pay off all their bills is to make a porno. Miri is slowly talked into the venture and with the help of some new friends, production begins. What the two friends fail to think about is how having sex with each other will affect the future of their relationship.

Zach and Miri was hysterical! Brandon Routh (Superman) makes a great cameo. Director Kevin Smith has gotten away from his Jay and Bob universe and still did a fantastic movie. Craig Robinson (the guy from The Office and Pineapple Express) is funny as always. If you are in the mood to laugh and have a dirty mind (don't we all), I highly recommend seeing this movie. The movie is quite explicit, however, so think twice before letting the kids go. Grade A

Spaced

A waiting to be discovered graphic artist and current comic book store worker, Tim (Simon Pegg) just got dumped by his girlfriend of five years and told to leave their apartment. Daisy (Jessica Hynes) has just decided squatting with a bunch of stoners is no way for a burgeoning writer to live. The two strangers meet while apartment hunting and come across the perfect place. The only problem is the place is for professional couples only. With both of them desperate and homeless, Tim and Daisy devise a plan to pose as a young married couple to get the flat. Now, the only problems the two have is keep up the act in front of the landlord. Oh, and the two have to find paying work. Rounding out the cast are Brian (Mark Heap) the eccentric artist downstairs, Marsha (Julia Deakin) the boozing and talkative land lady, Mike (Nick Frost) Tim's troublesome best friend and gun enthusiast, and Twist (Katy Carmichael) Daisy's best friend and fashionista.

A short-lived British television series, Spaced never really caught on with all the pop-culture references throughout the series. However, an American audience has gradually grown by word of mouth and by famous fans like Kevin Smith, Quentin Tarantino, Matt Stone, and Judd Apatow. If you are a pop culture geek and like shows filled with irreverent humor, this is a show you need to pick up. Grade A

As W (Josh Brolin) meets in his office in mid 2002 determining whether or not to invade Iraq, he begins to flash back to influential moments of his life. Filmed in traditional Oliver Stone style, the movie jumps back and forth through time like a rabbit on crystal meth, yet keeps the progression of the story. The movie would be a great political satire if most of these events hadn’t actually happened.

The acting in the movie is fantastic although at some points the scenes seemed like an all-star SNL skit. Richard Dreyfuss disappears into the role of Dick Cheney. My only complaint in the acting department is James Cromwell, who is a great actor, didn’t seem to make a good Bush Sr.

As for the movie itself, a lot of Bush’s history is glossed over and many things aren’t even mentioned (cocaine use, election fixing). However the movie does the job of capturing the character of the man. Love him or hate him, you have to admit W is a compelling character. Rated PG 13 Run time 130 minutes

Max Payne

Max Payne (Mark Wahlberg) is desperately seeking answers behind the unsolved murder of his wife and daughter. Years have gone by without any answers and all leads have grown cold. However, a chance encounter during a random shake down slowly progresses towards a brutal murder scene with Max as the only suspect. Now on the run and in the cold, Max discovers his new woes may be linked to his wife’s death. Finally, Max may get the chance for revenge and redemption.

Based on the video game of the same name, Max Payne has the same basic plot line. The only twist is the mystery of the angels that show up in the previews. Without that, Max Payne is just another revenge-based action movie.

For those that would prefer not to spend the $7 to find out the mystery, the paragraph below lets you in on the secret. If you prefer to be surprised or figure it out on your own, skip the next paragraph. Rated PG-13 Run time 100 Minutes Grade C

The angels are actually hallucinations of the underground street drug Valkyr. The drug gives everyone the feel of invincibility along with the unfortunate side effect of seeing horrific valkyries. In a climax all soccer moms are sure to understand, Max takes the hallucinogenic and goes on a trigger happy rampage against the killers.

Sex Drive

Sex Drive – Luckless virgin, Ian (Josh Zuckerman) gets an instant message from his online girlfriend, Ms. Tasty, requesting if he brings his 1969 GTO Judge down to see her, she will go all the way with him. The only flaw is the car actually belongs to Ian’s older brother Rex (James Marsden). Fortunately, Ian’s friend Lance (Clark Duke) convinces Ian to take the car, hit the road, and finally get his cherry popped. However, as always, the best of plans get laid to waste including: Ian’s best friend Felecia decides to tag along with the guys, Rex finds out his car is missing, run ins with strange locals frequently occur, and a the group has a chance encounter with an Amish fellow who happens to be a fantastic mechanic.

Aside from a few random jokes, Sex Drive is a mediocre comedy with the same underlying plot of most movies where the unlucky guy happens to have a hot female best friend. Yet neither seem to notice each other until the 3^rd act.

Knight Rider has to be the dumbest show of the new season. Well, at least the worst one that's being picked up for an entire season. This is not the only shocking problem, however, as I recently learned the voice of the car was Val Kilmer. Did he lose a bet or is he desperate for money? A man responsible for some of my favorite roles in past movies (Doc Holliday in Tombstone, Ice Man from Top Gun, Chris Knight in Real Genius, and Nick Rivers from Top Secret!), has resorted to voicing the car? I would accept the move if the show were good, but the old series is better than this new one. The new series is like a bad one hour car ad. What's worse is I've seen better car ads, hell I've seen better commercials for razor blades!

To differ with most people ranting on the net, I will provide a solution to this show. First, bring back Hasselhoff as the driver. Next, think Kung-Fu meets Beautiful Mind. Knight travels from town to town helping people in need of his expertise. The twist is only Knight can hear the car when it speaks, leaving the question to the viewer: Is Knight really a special agent driving a living, technological marvel, or is he just a good-natured nut speaking into a broken dashboard light?

However, I was raised to find the positve in everything; therefore, I give you one highlight of this current show...

Deanna Russo

One of the best shows you may not be watching

Sons of Anarchy does for motorcycle gangs what Sopranos did for New Jersey mobsters. However, this show also adds some black humor along the way. Charlie Hunnam stars as Jax, a young member whose love for the brotherhood is tested by his growing apprehension for its lawlessness. Meanwhile, Jax's step-father Clay (Ron Pearlman) and mother Gemma (Katey Segal) slowly bend the will of the club to their ideal, albeit dark, vision.

The most recent episode found the members helping a recently released convict reclaim some skimmed funds he had hidden before going away. Unfortunately, his nervous tick of compulsive masterbation is leaves the members uneasy. On the other end of town, Gemma is trying to make sure all goes well with her charity picnic for the local school. Things start to unravel, though, when an ousted member shows up to see his son's band play during the fund raiser. This causes the gang to try some experimental tattoo removal by the end of the show.

If this show keeps up its mix of intensity and humor, it may help replace that void Sopranos left behind. For now, its worth the watch. New episodes can be seen on FX on Wednesdays at 9pm Central, or go to fxnetwork and watch previous episodes.

Body of Lies

In a clash of beliefs and ideals, Ferris has to learn quickly who to trust for making the wrong choice could cost him his life. 128 Minutes Rated R

Body of Lies is another fantastic action/suspense movie from Ridley Scott. (Black Hawk Down, Gladiator) While this movie lacks the personal drama of the recent movie, Traitor, it more than makes up for it in action sequences. This movie shows the futility of the war on terror yet shows why it's also necessary. Many other movies trying to tackle this subject often lean one way or the other. Body of Lies seems to walk the razor's edge. Grade B-

Throwback Movies on DVD

Every week or so I am going to try to post about a couple movies that either stayed under the radar at the box office, never quite made it to the big screen, or was just plain forgotten over time

Suspect Zero- FBI agent Thomas Mackelway (Aaron Eckhart) is brought into an investigation of a series of strange murders. Signs slowly point to Benjamin O'Ryan (Ben Kinglsey) who was used in a secret government experiment in developing telepathic abilities. O'Ryan, however, is on his own quest after the ultimate elusive serial killer seemingly devoid of any pattern. During the chase Mackelway begins to wonder if O'Ryan's ability has turned him into the very monster he was supposedly made to stop. Released in 2004. Rated R

This movie is a dark, mysterious thriller with a chilling performance by Ben Kingsley. Suspect Zero is definitely worth a rental for those that enjoy noir detective movies.

Trespass is about two Arkansas fire fighters, Vince and Don, who find a map that leads to a stolen cache of gold. While in an abandoned building in East St. Louis (yes, East St. Louis) in search of the treasure, Vince (Bill Paxton) witnesses a gangland execution. King James (Ice-T) decides he can't have any witnesses and orders his gang to kill the two firemen. Meanwhile, Don (William Sadler) refuses to walk away without the gold. This starts a deadly game of cat and mouse between the two sides in which no one may walk away. Released in 1992. Rated R.

This movie should provide with plenty of mindless entertainment. Trespass is an old-school action movie filled with gagster rappers. (think Die Hard meets Judgement Night)

Body of Lies-Looks like a terrorist version of the Departed especially with DiCaprio in it. Too bad Traitor beat them to the box office. However, Russell Crowe usually has good sense when picking movie parts.
The Express-Just in time for October, an inspirational movie about a sports legend!
Quarantine-This looks like a zombie movie crossed with the bad photography of the Blair Witch. And does anyone else see the night vision shots and flashback to that Paris Hilton video?
City of Ember-Think Journey to the Center of the Earth, but in reverse...

October 17th

Max Payne-Based on a video game which usually is not a good sign, but I'm curious why scenes include the sky turning to fire and a horde of angels randomly appearing. Starring Mark Walburg and Mila Kunis
Sex Drive- This movie caught my interest when a preview shows a cop trying to mace a fast-food mascot then screaming, "The big Mexican won't go down!"
W.-Given Oliver Stone's history, this movie could be insanely boring or just plain insane. I'm having trouble telling whether or not the movie is a satire or a tribute to our lame-duck President...

October 24th

Changeling-Jon Malkovich and Angelina Jolie provide the star power, but Clint Eastwood is directing. On his track record alone, this movie may worth checking out.
High School Muical 3: Senior Year-Note: want to be successful like Disney? Milk every idea for as much money as you can while beating the same premise into the ground and then set it to bubble-gum pop.
Pride and Glory-Ed Norton and Colin Farrell in a cop movie? Sounds like money, however this one was supposed to come out back in March. Was it due to the company preferring better time based on the strike or were there bad reviews in early test screenings?
Saw V-See above note on High School Musical 3 except use creepy industrial music...

Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist

Trying to get over a break-up with his girlfriend of 6 months, Nick (Michael Cera) is coerced by his friends to come out and play bass for their gig. The group Nick plays in is an indie-gay rock band called the Jerk Offs. Meanwhile, Norah (Kat Dennings) is convinced to go out with her hard partying friend (Ari Graynor) and hit the underground band scene. As events unfold, Nick and Norah are forced together by Nick’s band-mates to go out and find the secret location of a secret show by the ultimate underground band. Music , at first, seems to be the only thing Nick and Norah have in common, but as the night progresses, it suddenly feels like anything might be possible. Run time: 90 minutes Rated PG-13

Set in the New York City underground music scene, this movie provides a dynamic story of romance and possibilities. Like Ray said on-air Monday, all it could take for a lasting relationship is one long night together. This one provides for men and women alike. Whether a fan of music or not, the teens and parents should enjoy this movie.

Appaloosa

Two gunmen are hired by the townspeople of Appaloosa. Virgil Cole (Ed Harris) and Everett Hitch (Viggo Mortensen) have been bringing law to small towns for years, but this town offers a serious adversary for the two friends in the form of Randall Bragg (Jeremy Irons). Bragg is an wily adversary who runs a ranch just outside of town and feels his men should be allowed to do whatever they want while in Appaloosa. Things become even more difficult when Allison French (Renee Zellweger) comes to town looking for work and starts to come between the two longstanding friends of Cole and Hitch. This is one town where feelings can get you killed. Run time: 116 minutes Rated R

This movie was a fantastic Western. Everyone afore-mentioned gave great performances, but Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen, especially, provided characters to remember. Now this one doesn’t go down into the great Westerns of all time (Tombstone, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Unforgiven, and Hondo); however, Appaloosa is a textbook Western/Cowboy movie. The movie runs slow at some points and the movie is filled by the simplicity of cowboy wisdom. Those that don’t have the patience to sit through the story to get to the gunfights may get a little frustrated with the movie, but any true fan of the genre should put this one on the must-see list.

How to Lose Friends and Alienate People

Sidney Young (Simon Pegg) is the owner/lead journalist of a small British celebrity magazine. After crashing a party hosted by the editor of Sharp’s magazine by pretending to be the handler for the pig from Babe 3, Sidney is offered a starting position by the editor (Jeff Bridges). Immediately in over his head, Sidney arrives on the New York entertainment scene constantly bumbling about and often speaking his own contrary opinions to people who are uninterested. Finding and unlikely friend in his co-worker Alison Olsen (Kirsten Dunst), Sidney quickly tries to get her help in bagging the new “it girl” on the scene (Megan Fox). Run time: 90 minutes Rated PG-13

Not everyone may find a movie about a celebrity magazine writer’s fall to power all that interesting. Simon Pegg fans should enjoy his typical irreverent humor, otherwise How to Lose Friends and Alienate people has about as much originality to offer as another remake of Can’t Buy me Love. This one may be worth waiting until the movie gets to dvd. In the meantime Simon Pegg fans can go out and rent Run Fatboy Run, Hot Fuzz, or Spaced (the British television show where he got his start). Grade C

A couple who participated in a potent medical experiment gain telekinetic ability and then have a child who is pyrokinetic. Drew Barrymore stars in Fire Start... oh wait that's not right. Let's try that again...

A pair of adventurers try to track down an ancient Aztec gold! Chuck Norris and Louis Gossett Jr star in FireWalker... No that's not it either.

Firepoof er, Fireproof rather, stars Caleb Holt (Kirk Cameron) is a firefighter and all around man's man who is the go to guy in the local fire house. Unfortunately, for as successful he is at work, he is equally unsuccessful on the home-front. As his marriage ends before him, Caleb's father sticks his nose in, er, offers advice to his confused son by providing a book entitled the Love Dare. Initially, Caleb's new efforts are met with reluctance and uncertainty by his wife Catherine (Erin Bethea). Over time, however, Caleb starts putting his heart into his efforts and allows God to guide him to be a better husband through prayer. (no, really!) Rated PG

Unless you already have group tickets to go to see this one with your church group, I recommend setting yourself on fire before being dragged to this movie. Otherwise, God be with you, and bring a phone with an internet connection.

Grade: F (for flaming bags of excrement would get a more positive response)

5 Reasons to rent Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Devastated after breaking up with his world famous girlfriend, Peter (Jason Segel) decides to take time off composing musical scores for television shows and takes a solo vacation in Hawaii. Unfortunately, his ex Sarah (Kristin Bell) is also vacationing with her new rock-star boyfriend in the very hotel in which Peter is staying. Peter tries to cope by finding solace and friendship in the hotel staff and guests, especially by spending time with the hotel concierge, Rachel (Mila Kunis). Rated R due to nudity and strong language.

As for why this is worth at least a rental:

5. The movie was produced by Judd Apatow, who brought movies such as 40 year old Virgin, Knocked Up, Superbad, and Pineapple Express to the big screen.

4. Jason Segel wrote and stars in the movie. He doesn't have the slightest problem in making himself seem hysterically pathetic. (warning: the man is also not afraid to show off his junk)

3. Dracula: the puppet musical...

2. The supporting cast is fantastic! Paul Rudd (Anchorman), Bill Hader (Superbad), Jonah Hill (Superbad), and Jack McBrayer (Kenneth from 30 Rock) all have laugh out loud parts in the movie.

1. Mila Kunis And Kristin Bell dressed bikinis all movie long! What more do you need to enjoy the movie?

Iron Man on DVD Today!!

One of the best movies of the summer is finally on DVD!

Straight from the pages of the legendary comic book, Iron Man is a hero who is built -not born- to be unlike any other!

This movie isn't just the best Super-Hero Origin story, it was the second best Action Adventure movie of the summer. From the casting, which was perfect, to the directing (hard to believe this was done by the same guy who directed Elf, The Break Up, and Swingers) this movie was spot-on. On top of it all, the movie is accessible to all ages and both genders.

Iron Man is worth the purchase to have this one on your shelf. With any luck, by the time you're burnt out on the movie, The Dark Knight should be on DVD. Grade: A

Miracle at St. Anna

In 1983, Hector Negron (Laz Alanso) shot a man in cold blood. A seemingly upright citizen and decorated war veteran, Hector does not seem to have any motive for the crime. Cub reporter Tim Boyle (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) takes interest in the story especially after helping find a priceless artifact in Hector’s apartment. This drives Tim to question Hector about the intriguing mystery, which began in 1944 Italy.

In 1944, four buffalo soldiers end up trapped in a small Tuscan villa during World War II after one of the soldiers risks his life to save an injured boy.

The story is inspired by the August 1944 Sant'Anna di Stazzema massacre perpetrated by the Waffen-SS in retaliation to Italian partisan activity. According to the Buffalo Soldier National Museum: 500,000 Blacks were stationed overseas, amounting to 4% of the 11 million Americans who served on foreign shores during World War 2. About 10% of blacks were in combat units. The all-black 92nd Infantry was in Italy, and had 616 killed in action and 2,187 wounded.

The movie was actually done fairly well and its lackluster performance in the box office is rather disappointing. The movie is rather epic in scope and actually provides a point of view from all sides involved in the war. Some moments occur where I thought, “okay Spike, I get it. White people are racist…” All in all however, I thought it was a pretty good war movie. While it’s not Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, or Dirty Dozen, Miracle at St Anna is one of the better war movies I have seen in a while. If you like war movies, I recommend giving this one a shot. Just remember its rated R and leave the kids at home.

Lakeview Terrace

A young, interracial couple move into what they believe to be the perfect starter house until they meet their new neighbor, Abel Turner (Sam Jackson). Abel is a high strung LAPD beat cop. After the couple decide to fight back against the odd behavior of their new neighbor, the situation quickly escalates beyond a simple difference of opinions.

This movie seemed to wander back and forth between a thriller and narrative of difficulties an interracial couple seem to face. Sam Jackson's character was rather interesting. At first, he just appears to be overbearing, over protective and narrow minded. However as the movie goes on, Abel seems to have some serious issues. Unfortunately, the other characters aren't as well fleshed out as Abel as they all felt fairly one-dimensional.

In the end, Jackson devolves into just another psychopath chasing after the young couple. I couldn't help but wonder if there was more there. This is one where you won't be missing out if you decide to wait for a rental. Grade: C-

This movie is just another in a long line of romantic "boy meets girl" comedies with a quirky premise. Dane Cook has funny moments but he typically comes across as a beginner comedian who has come up with 30 minutes of material from a Taco Bell menu. Jason Biggs seems perpetually doomed to play the "nice guy" schmuck who always happens to get caught in an embarrassing act.

One redeeming feature is Kate Hudson and Dane Cook work well off each other. The best parts of the movie are the scenes showing Cook being the worst wedding date in history. (Including telling the infamous priest and rabbi joke to an actual priest and rabbi during the reception)

My advice is hold off for this one until it runs repeatedly on TBS or Comedy Central in 8 months. Grade: D

In this spy movie farce, a series of random events and misunderstandings by a collection of idiots slowly turns into a potential international incident of meager proportions. George Clooney and Brad Pitt give fantastic performances. This movie is sure to provide scenes that will have most people rolling. This is one movie that is definitely worth catching in the theatre. (if only to share a laugh with dozens of people during key moments)

For those that can't get enough of the Cohens' dark humor, try: The Big Leboski, Raising Arizona, The Lady Killers, Intolerable Cruelty, Fargo, or O Brother Where Art Thou.

Grade: B

As he falls further under the sway of Bangkok’s intoxicating beauty, Joe begins to question his isolated existence and let down his guard …just as Surat decides it’s time to clean house.

This movie should be renamed to "Bangkok Ridiculous".. It's definitely an hour and twenty minutes of your life that you'll never get back.

Since seeing this movie I've been trying to go back and find ANY redeeming quality of this movie and there's nothing.. The acting was horrible, the script was horrible, and the pace of the movie was horrible. What I want to know is how anybody that saw this movie during the production stage would think that it would possibly make money. It's THAT bad. I've put Bangkok Dangerous on my list of "The Worst Movies of 2008".

If you missed our review of this movie on The Ray Lytle Show friday morning we talked about Nicholas Cage and how the only movie he's made in the last 5 years that made any money was "Ghost Rider" then we all came to the conclusion that it didn't matter who played the character of the ghost rider that it would have made money. Since then I've come home and checked out the almight IMDB to find what other movies Cage has done that MIGHT have made money.. Here's what I found. I'm not sure how we missed these movies but I think that the National Treasure movies MIGHT have made a few dollars. And also within the last 5 years there has been another great Nicholas Cage movie, the movie is called "Matchstick Men". It stars Cage as a traveling salesman/con man who finds out he has a daughter but before he can turn his life around he decides to get his daughter in on "one last con".. It's definitely worth checking out. Released in 2004 so it should be easily available at any video rental store.

If you're into movies about hitmen, DC recommends "Collateral" starring Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx.. I threw out that Timothy Olyphant in Hitman was tolerable, but one of my favorite "hitman" movies is "The Whole Nine Yards" with Bruce Willis, Amanda Peet, Matthew Perry, Natasha Henstridge and Michael Clarke Duncan.. great stuff!
